Social Action
Help us build a better world
In these turbulent times it can be difficult to know where to start in creating the world of our vision. Quakers traditionally have sought to challenge the social injustices that lead to conflict, for a fairer and more peaceful world. Today is no different, with many Friends working in the areas of peace-building, non-violent social change, and economic justice.
MK Quakers are actively involved with a number of initiatives, both locally and internationally. Among them are Interfaith MK, Citizens MK, and Peace Works Zimbabwe, a charity that was set up by a number of Milton Keynes Friends to provide practical as well as financial resources for peace-building initiatives in Zimbabwe.
In 2024 MK Quakers donated to these charities and organisations:
- Citizens MK campaigns for a fairer, inclusive and thriving city
- Peace Works Zimbabwe supporting Peace Clubs in schools and conflict resolution training in the community’
- Helena Kennedy Foundation provides bursaries, mentoring and support to disadvantaged students
- Bus Shelter MK, working with the homeless
- MK Food Bank, supporting those in food poverty
- Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre
- West Bletchley Wellbeing & Counselling Service
